"There's only two types of bird that fly at night - that's owls and bats"

Cannabis user claimed she was ‘trying to avoid a large bird’ after being caught drug driving slowly along Halling High Street

Prosecutor James Nichols told the court Gregory was pulled over on March 10.

He added: “It was just after midnight, in the early hours of the Sunday morning and she was stopped because of the slow manner of her driving.

They were also told she was of previous good character and was driving in that manner as she was trying to avoid a large bird that had been on the road.

Howard Cox of FairFuelUK warns of impact of Rachel Reeves’ plans to hike up petrol costs by 10p a litre and pay-per-mile new road tax scheme

Not sure if this is Howard's usual paranoia being reported as fact / news: "While no details have yet been released, taxation rates are expected to be a combination of how many miles travelled annually and a vehicle’s emissions." I wonder how much doing a Lejog would cost you?

RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “We’ve reached the conclusion the Chancellor has no option but to put fuel duty back up to 58p a litre in October’s Budget.

“She knows the 5p discount is losing the Treasury £2bn a year. She also knows drivers were overcharged by a staggering £1.6bn last year according to the Competition and Markets Authority’s recent report."

lorry driver crashes his lorry whilst distracted by looking at his phone and nearly takes out bystanders.

I'd like to think his reaction at the end of the clip is him realising how close he was to killing someone but I imagine it's more him realising he's buggered for a job now.....well at least until his ban ends.

I'm grateful to Brian for his comments on traffic to give me at least some legitimacy for including this story (sorry, not sorry). Rebecca hasn't even got a hot tub.  "We were told" = "I heard what I wanted to hear".

Residents object to primary school plans over hot tub privacy fears

Would you want your hot tub overlooked by a school (WELL, WOULD YOU?)

Rebecca Peace claims that the design differs from what she was told when purchasing her property. She commented: "I was told when I came to view (as were other neighbours too) that the school would be in the left corner, NOT overlooking our 'private' gardens We were also told it would be one-storey.

"Myself and other neighbours have made preparations for hot tubs in our garden. Preparations that have already cost money.

"Having children overlook our garden whilst we are swanning round in the 'privacy' of our own land is far from wrong and a two-storey building obstruct the nice view completely goes against what I agreed to when buying this property."

Brian Lewis added: "The only issue I foresee is the obvious parking issues during drop off and pick up times. What assurances can the residents have that this matter has or will be addressed?

Not sure if drivers have quite grasped how these "captive" policies (and the issue they're designed to address) work:

Drivers urged to 'boycott' Trowbridge car park over new cameras

The clampdown on drivers leaving the vicinity of the car park while their vehicles remain has led to some people saying the area should be boycotted until the regulations are changed.

Others say that boycotting the car park will affect trade at nearby food and drink outlets, as well as the 83-bed Premier Inn and the ODEON cinema, who are then likely to complain about their trade being affected by a lack of customers.

Plans for Chippenham free parking scheme to be debated

Chippenham Town Council will consider a motion on the principle of subsidised free parking in all the town’s Wiltshire Council-owned car parks.

If councillors support the motion, they will decide whether to provide one free hour at an annual cost of £40.28 for an average Band D household, or two hours for £48.94.

Car mounts pavement and hits three schoolgirls before driving off in shocking hit-and-run

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/30409181/car-three-school-girls-driving-hi...

Quote:

Initial reports suggest a car, travelling at high speed, swerved onto the pavement to avoid an oncoming vehicle and ploughed into the girls.

The teenagers were rushed to hospital with severe leg injuries that will require surgery.

Sergeant Paul Lunt, from Greater Manchester Police's Roads Policing Unit, said: “The victims were just walking on the pavement when a car mounted the pavement and collided with them, causing them serious injuries before driving off, leaving the girls injured by the road."

So, no driver??

Home Bargains parking signs being looked at after fines drama

The parking spaces have no clear instruction saying not to park there and no information in the bay about what they are for.

A spokesman for Sainsbury's said: "This part of the car park is a traffic aisle to allow passage between the parking bays.

"It is marked with clear 'give way' triangles and junction markings – we are reviewing the signage and markings at the site to understand if we can make it even clearer that these are not parking spaces.”

Noisy nighttime roadworks planned for Folkestone Road, Dover, with pneumatic tools and sirens are a ‘necessary evil’

Cllr Michael Nee, district member for Maxton and Elms Vale, said: “The works are a necessary evil and will inconvenience many people in the ward and there’s no doubt in my mind that there will be serious consequences for some residents.

“The movement of the vehicles, the lights and the milling process will disturb them.

”Unfortunately, it is logical to carry out the works when it disrupts the least amount of traffic, plus the road surface desperately requires repair.”
